Disappointed passengers on the crippled Norwegian Star have been offered a full refund and 50% off their next cruise, along with other sweeteners, after the luxury ship’s propulsion system failed, stranding the vessel 30km off Wilson’s Promontory on Victoria’s east coast on Friday.Norwegian Star was sailing from Melbourne to New Zealand, carrying more than 3,000 passengers and crew, but was barely out of Victoria when it was set adrift. Two tugs brought the ship to Melbourne’s Station Pier on Saturday night and the cruise line says repairs could take up to 48 hours. Some passengers have reported being told that the wait to sail again could be as long as five days. Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed the ship’s propulsion system stopped working in the early hours of Friday, when the ship was en route to Tasmania and due to dock in Burnie after leaving Melbourne.
