A call for fathers to‘own’ outside childrenBy Garth A. RoseOne of the first acts taken by former Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley in 1972, was to remove the stigma and label of “Bastards” given to children born out of wedlock. Manley insisted every child was legal under Jamaican law. However, Caribbean-American sociologist Carmen Hall of South-Miami, has drawn attention to a situation that continues to plague Caribbean communities. One in which men have children outside marriage, but are raised without knowing their siblings from their father’s primary family.“This is a situation that needs to be addressed, as it’s damaging to too many families,” Hall said. “It’s very damaging and unfair to children of the same man to be hidden from each other.”She added that, “It has happened repeatedly, where children of the same man don’t know of each other until they attend his funeral. Funerals are fast becoming the platform where Caribbean folk are learning they have siblings they never knew existed. That’s because the deceased never informed the children from his primary family they had a brother or sister born outside the primary family.”Hall related a recent incident where a well-known Caribbean-American attended his father’s funeral in Jamaica with his family. During the eulogy when reference was made to the deceased grieving son, and other relatives, a young woman interrupted saying, “I am a grieving child too. Maas B… was also my father.” The sudden revelation caused great pain and embarrassment for the man, his family and the newly-disclosed sister.“People must stop hiding their children, whether born within or outside the primary family,” Hall said. “Hiding siblings from each other denies children of one of the most important aspects of a family – the positive interaction between siblings.”Hall says while marital or any kind of infidelity must not be condoned, she urges women to try and find it within themselves not to ostracize ‘outside’ children.Perrine clergyman, Pastor Bertram Marks, also says the practice where siblings are “denied knowing each other” is wrong. “Children born in or outside marriages are God’s gift. They shouldn’t be hidden under bushels to avoid embarrassment. First, men have a responsibility to be faithful to their wives, but if they father children outside marriage they also have a responsibility to ensure their children know and relate with each other, before they are shocked to know of each other at the man’s funeral.” read more

Lewis Hamilton clinched his fourth Formula One driver’s title to become Britain’s most successful driver in the history of the sport and to tie with Sebastian Vettel as joint third most successful driver in F1 history.Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won his second race in 2017 but the major highlight of the race was Vettel hitting Hamilton’s car in the rear just on the first lap.“Did he hit me deliberately?” Hamilton asked over team radio.Vettel and Hamilton had to pit after the first lap but Hamilton found himself in a very difficult situation as he emerged out of the pit 30 seconds behind the Ferrari. He had to struggle to be in points scoring position and even though he finished in ninth place, Vettel’s inability to win the race ensured the title race ended in New Mexico.Hamilton’s title win ensures the final two races are as dead rubber as it comes, Vettel would hope though, that he and Ferrari try to end the season on a positive note going into 2017.With the speed and flexibility of the Ferrari and the organised tactical and administrative know-how of Mercedes, this direct rivalry surely looks like it will be the highlight of 2018. How well the Red Bulls and Fernando Alonso’s McLaren – both to be powered by Renault – will be in terms of upsets is left to be seen. For the here and now, Lewis Hamilton is the Formula One World Champion.Related read more

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has launched an industry consultation to gain valuable insights about how to design and develop a code of conduct on GDPR compliance for European online gambling incumbents. In May 2018, the European Union enforced its GDPR frameworks across member states, protecting the personal data of individuals and further streamlining its policy overseeing the digital exchange of information.Despite its protections, GDPR requirements have posed challenges to many EU business sectors (including online gambling) with regards to handling and processing consumer data.Responding to changing demands, the EGBA has published draft provisions seeking to establish an ‘industry code of conduct’ for its members and wider stakeholders working with online gambling incumbents.“The Code aims to add value to the implementation of the GDPR by providing sector-specific guidance for online gambling companies, through the use of examples and best practices, on how to comply with the GDPR,” said the EGBA.Opening its consultation, the EGBA wants to secure vital insights and knowledge on GDPR factors pertaining to data laws, transparency, fair exchanges, storage, purpose limitation and accuracy. The trade body details that submissions should be sent no later than 25 February 2020. Submit MySportwetten: What German players want from a bookmaker July 10, 2020 StumbleUpon Better Collective cautious on quick recovery as COVID drags growth momentum August 25, 2020 Share There were higher odds than normal for the home teams as the Bundesliga season resumed in Germany, a trend likely to be reinforced after just one of the teams went on to win. That was a key finding from this month’s Better Collective Spotlight, for which one of the igaming affiliate’s flagship products in German speaking markets, Wettbasis, provided its betting-based feedback on the league’s eagerly anticipated, behind closed doors return. Wettbasis specialises in analysis, statistics and betting tips for matches including those in the Bundesliga. Christian Tichy and Christoph Bauer, two spokespersons for the company, told SBC News that betting volume was higher than normal, most likely because of the excitement built up during the enforced 66-day break. The pair added that there were less bets placed on home teams across the weekend and less of a focus on highlight matches, for example Dortmund vs Schalke, perhaps reflecting that it was somehow less of a real derby without the fans involved. To build on the point of heightened home odds, particularly as the week went on, Tichy and Bauer shared that Dortmund had a Betfair exchange price of 1.52 on Monday, which went to 1.65 on the day of the match. Similarly, Hoffenheim – beaten at home by Hertha Berlin – started the week at 2.00 (bwin) before reaching 2.30 ahead of kick off. While these sliding odds for home teams was vindicated with only second-placed Dortmund winning, it should be noted that Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach – the other two occupants of the Bundesliga’s top three – were both victors away from home.Tichy and Bauer explained that we must wait to see the longer-term impact of having no fans in the stadium on betting volumes, because while the fans have potentially more time through not physically attending the match, it will be interesting to follow if the interest in the matches will decline over time without the normal ‘football feeling’. They concluded that everything ‘looked fine’ from a Wettbasis standpoint in terms of the availability of in-play markets, implying that there were no problems with accumulating live match data.
